====== CallGS ====== by Dr.Mohan Noone, 28-6-2004 CallGS simplifies the task of creating PDF files from postscripts (.ps/.eps/.prn). It requires a working installation of AFPL Ghostscript for windows (freeware). You may download the latest version of AFPL Ghostscript from http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/ Make sure you have Ghostscript installed before using CallGS, or it will not work! Once installed, just click on any postscript (.ps/.eps/.prn) file to convert it to pdf. How do I create an .(e)ps / .prn file? -------------------------------------- - "Postscript" is a "printer language" created by Adobe. A PDF is always created from a postscript - one might say, its an optimized and modified postscript file. - You can create a postscript file from any document using a postscript printer driver. - All windows installations come with postscript printer drivers. Here are step-by-step instructions on how to install one on your PC. - ============================= - First, go to the printers folder (in the Control Panel or, in Start Menu -> Settings) - Add a new local printer. When the list of models appears, select any printer with "PS" in the name. All of them use the same driver. If you have Windows 2000 or later, you can choose MS Publisher Imagesetter, under "Generic". - In the available ports, select "FILE:" - to create a postscript file. - You may want to rename the printer as "PostScript File Printer" or something similar. - Make sure you DONT set this as the default printer - or it will swallow all your print jobs. (Note - it is easy to change this later, from the printer's folder). - You DONT want to print a test page now.. - Now right click on the printer icon and select "Properties". In the post script options, you need to "optimize for portability", and for best results, fonts must be "Sent as Bitmaps" - in the Fonts section. - You may also want to change the default paper size - e.g, A4. - Feel free to fiddle with the options - if you get things really messed up, you may delete the printer, and start all over again! - That's it - your postscript file printer is installed! - ================================ - Now, open any document in any appilcation. Select File -> Print. Choose the Postscript file printer in the list of printers, and click on "Print". You will be asked to select a file to print to. Do so. - Your postscript is ready! Distribution: ------------- CallGS is free software. It is provided "as-is", and no warranty of any kind is expressed or implied. Thank you for downloading CallGS! Dr.M.L.Noone
